There seems to be a bigger story in conjunction with the Notre Dame Cathedral fire. As I mentioned in my Good Friday sermon, the cross that stood out in the midst of the ashes and debris that fell from the roof/ceiling was very symbolic. It was like the hopes and dreams of the Israelite people went up in smoke. Their “Messiah” was now dead on a cross. They were like the ruins with no future. But alas, that cross was not charred. It will be used again. God used the crucifixion of Jesus and subsequent rising from the grave for the renewal of the human race. The eventual restoration of the Cathedral is like a resurrection of sorts. In an amazing way the fire united people from around the world in spirit. That’s what Easter is supposed to do for us today. The Good News has been spread to all corners of the earth. Believers should bound in the unity of the Risen Lord!
