The season of Lent allows for a spiritual cleansing that no other time of the year afords. I believe that by and large Catholics utilize this time for genuine growth. Bishop Milan, in his pastoral letter on the start of the Great Fast, wrote that we “change” because we have been saved— not vice versa. In other words, we are Jesus people, let’s try and be like Him. We’ll never of course attain that goal, but we’re called to grow ever closer to His image and likeness. The efort put forth is because we have been saved. Let’s allow everything we are “do” during these forty days to be directed toward that end!
